On Wednesday June 19th the Water Mill Bridge Club held two day long fund-raising championship game to raise money for the Alzheimer’s Association. There were approximately 40 players participating from 9 a.m. through 5 p.m. The day began with delicious donations of breakfast treats from Panera Bread for breakfast. At 10 a.m. the games began. There were nine tables of players competing for the Spring Club Championship. Karen Pollack and Tony Zeigler won the championship with a 64.29% game. Calissa’s Greek Restaurant and Fresco’s Italian Restaurant donated lunch for the players before they started the afternoon competition of eight tables of players. Bob Yellis and Debbie Bricker captured the afternoon championship with a 69.39% game. The Club raised more than $10,400. toward research for a cure of this dreaded disease. The WMBC would like to recognize all the players and the local businesses for their very generous contributions to the Alzheimer’s Association. The Water Mill Bridge Club will be having many other special games including North American Pairs where players earn red master points, ACBL Interclub Championships competing with other clubs throughout the U.S. A six week Beginning bridge lesson course is offered by ACBL instructor Laura O’Reilly. Supervised play for the newer players are offered twice a week as well as Lessons for the intermediate and advanced players by pros Joe Byrnes and Melih Ozdil.
